Admission Order Requirement for Inpatient Hospital Stays:

Medicare law requires admission orders be completed by a Physician or Practitioner with admitting privileges and knowledge of the patient’s condition(s). Admission orders must be properly authenticated, signed, timed and dated. No payment will be made for inpatient hospital services if there are no signed, dated and timed admission order.

“Patients are admitted to the hospital as inpatients only on the recommendation of a physician or licensed practitioner permitted by the state to admit patients to a hospital.”
